Publish Your Research on Canada Commons
The Upload feature lets you add your own content directly to Canada Commons. By uploading, you can make your work discoverable, citable, and preserved for the long term—helping it reach a global audience of researchers, educators, students, policymakers, and the public.

Who can upload?
Uploading is open to individuals and organizations, including:
- Universities and colleges
- Governments, law firms, corporations
- Think tanks, NGOs, IGOs, nonprofits
- Publishers
- Archives and special collections
- Bloggers, influencers, and independent authors
How to upload your content
Step 1: Log in or create an account
Log in with your email address, or register for a free account.
Tip: Your organization may already subscribe to Canada Commons. Check with your library or administrator for access.
Step 2: Start your upload
Once logged in, click the Upload button in the top-right corner.
- Upload files if you own the rights or have permission to share them.
- Paste a URL if you host the content or have rights to link it.
Step 3: Review metadata
Our AI enrichment tool extracts details including:
- Title
- Source
- Author(s)
- Publication date
- Summary
- Tags
You can edit or add to these fields before publishing.
Step 4. Set your upload's visibility
You can choose:
- Private – only you can see it
- Organization – only members of your institution can see it
- Public – visible to all Canada Commons users worldwide
Step 5: Publish your upload
Before publishing, review our
File Upload Policy. All uploads are reviewed by our editorial team to ensure quality, discoverability, and accessibility.
When you’re ready, click Publish. You can view, edit, or remove your uploads at any time from the menu in the top right corner.
What happens after you upload
Your file is assigned a permanent Content Object Identifier (COI) and added to the Canada Commons database.
AI enrichment extracts metadata (title, source, author, publication date, summary, tags, etc.). You can review and edit the metadata to improve accuracy.
- The item becomes searchable and accessible throughout the global Canada Commons community.
- Where applicable, links to your website are included, which will increase traffic to your site.
